Q. What does MAKAL mean?

A. Makal is a combination of two transliterated Hebrew words. Michael "who is like God" (the archangel who stands in times of conflict for the children of Israel) mîḵā'ēl and "to dance, to skip (qal), to leap, to jump" pronounced raw-kad'. 

Q. What do the silk terms mommes, mulberry and habotai mean?

A. Mommes is the Japanese term used for the weight of the silk, often abbreviated mm. The lower the number the more transparent the silk is. We use 8mm for smaller and more durable products and 5mm for larger products which are less dense (typically for adults and experienced dancers). Mulberry is the plant the silk worm eats and feeds off, our silk is sourced from cocoons made by these worms. Habotai, also spelled habutai, means "feather-two-layer" in Japanese. It is a type of basic weave that produces a lightweight, shimmering fabric. Our silk is responsibly sourced from China as they are the leading manufacturer worldwide.

Q. Can I place an order and gift to someone else?

A. Absolutely. When you place your order, make sure to use the recipients mailing address as this will calculate the shipping costs. Also send us an email with the recipients full name and address to confirm. We will include a sticker with their name, size of product, scripture verse and silk name attached to the storage bag. The gift will be mailed directly to the recipient. 

Q. This is my first time buying a set of flags, what do you recommend?

A. For smaller children we recommend a Small 8mm (26 x 32 inches) set of flags, for taller children we recommend a Medium 8mm (35x44 inches) OR Large 5mm (45 x 56 inches) set of flags or streamers. For adults under 5'-2" OR those who have shoulder/arm injuries, a Medium or Large is a good place start. Mediums can be custom ordered in 5mm silk if desired. Adults over 5'-2" can easily start with a Large size flag.

Q. There is limited space where I dance, what flag size do you recommend?

A. We recommend a Medium to Large size. Mediums can be custom ordered in 5mm silk if desired.

Q. Do you anoint and pray over the silks?

A. We do not anoint any of our silks with scented oils as some customers have reactions to certain smells. We do however pray over them as they are created.

Q. Do the silks have any special power?

A. No, there is no special power in the silks themselves. They are made in an atmosphere of worship and prayer in our studio. We seek the Holy Spirit's direction for choosing the colours, application and naming of the product. For many this is particularly meaningful as it 'speaks' personally to them. Many owners can sense the prayer and anointing on the silks as they touch and use them. 

Q. Where do you get your rods from?

A. We have spent a great deal of time and money researching and experimenting to get the 'look and feel' of our products. We do not sell the rods individually nor will we provide you with our suppliers contact information.

Q. Do you repair and/or modify others flags?

A. From time to time we do repairs or modifications, this is the least of our priorities and will be handled on a case by case basis. Please contact us for your specific needs. Repairs/modifications range in cost depending on the extent of the changes. Click here for more info.
